Text Box: Conversation at Work

Wayne said to me,
“ I’m 50 years old. My mama died of lung cancer at 51,
My daddy died of colon cancer at 53, I don’t expect
to live much longer.”
“You look good as new shoes to me.” I said,
my eyes staring
into his.
“I know, but they did too.”
“Maybe early death skips a generation,”
“Yes, perhaps…What do you need from me?”
“Well I came in to get a certification document
but I have forgotten for what.
Screw the document,
lets take a moment and talk about beauty;
How about those pictures on your back wall—
You’re a soccer coach…that’s your team?”
