(The photograph above is an
image of a mausoleum door in Mt Hope Cemetery Rochester New York.
People have etched upon its
door their angst of being. What does the idea of death do to us? What does
it say about our culture and the worth of our culture? Eternity waits for
us all, shall we flatly write our graffiti upon its door or shall we
imagine beyond it—Isn’t it better to imagine beyond it and in so doing give
faith to hope and hope to being.
Second Door
Two doors to eternity,
one opens to a tomb,
the other to the infinite.
Your epitaph can be written
on one, or when the time comes
it can be written on the other
in the quantum maybe of perhaps.
I don’t know about you,
but I’ll take the second door.
